Router/XP/ME problem
Hi. I'm new to the site, and unfortunately I can't offer much help to others in payback for any help given to me, but I'm completely baffled by this one.
When I connect my modem to either of my laptops (XP's), the connection is fine and internet works great. However, when I try to connect to my D-link DI624M wireless router, the WAN light does not light, meaning it's not getting the signal form the modem. Also, when I connect to my Dell Dimension Desktop which is running ME directly from the modem, it also does not register the connection, "A network cable is unplugged".
The problem obviously isn't with the IP, as the connection works with laptops. The problem is not in the Dell LAN port, because I am able to setup the D-link router through this port when connected to it. And the D-link WAN port has worked in the past on a different desktop PC.
I'm tried reseting the D-link router, as well as the modem in every sequence I can think of, and still the same results.
Any ideas?

Get into your modem via laptop and right down the IP address and the subnet mask of the modem. Then get into you D-link via Dell and make sure DHCP is set to on. In D-link, for "gateway" enter the IP address of the modem. Also n D-link, for "subnet mask", enter the subnet mask copied from modem. Remove power from modem and D-link and computer. Connect modem ethernet port to D-link WAN, connect D-link port to computer network port. First apply power to modem, waite untill rebooting is done. Then apply power to D-link, waite untill rebooting is done. Finally, turn on computer.
