    Netgear DG834GT problems

    [CENTER][/CENTHi,

I’ve just bought a DG834GT Netgear wireless router/modem. I set up the router via an Ethernet on my laptop, then wirelessly and everything is working fine. But I’m now trying to add a PC wirelessly via the adaptor that came with the DG834GT. It’s my mates PC and I didn’t install it but she swears she followed the instructions that came with it. Everything seems to have been installed properly and it is showing as receiving a connection and being connected to the correct wireless network (and at a faster speed than mine!) but she can’t access the internet.

I’ve checked with our ISP and it isn’t a case of only one MAC address being allowed to access the internet at a time. I didn’t connect the router via a wired connection to her PC like I did when setting up my connection but I can’t see anything in the manual saying that this is necessary before adding a wireless adaptor. I’ve tried opening a browser on her PC and typing in the ISP for the browser but this doesn’t work either. Also I’ve looked at the status of her connection and the activity shows packets are being sent but nothing is being received.

She must of have entered the correct password to even access the network so I can’t understand why she has a connection but can’t access the internet. Any suggestions???

    Thanks

    Em

Sounds like your friend may have the wrong Default Gateway value. Try going to the command prompt (Start Menu > Run > type cmd > click OK). At the command prompt, type ipconfig /all and press Enter. Both PCs should report the same details for the wireless network, apart from the IP Address, which should be different for the last section of the number, e.g. 192.168.0.2 and 192.168.0.3.

If this appears OK, open Internet Explorer on your friend's PC. Go to the Tools menu and select Internet Options. Select the Connections tab and check that it is set to dial an ISP only if a network connection is not found. Then click the LAN Settings button and ensure that Automatically Detect Settings is enabled.

Let us know if that helps
