Trouble finding printers with Windows XP
My father and I are both having the same problem with completely different computers, LANs, etc.
We are using wireless routers to connect to the internet from the laptops and those connections work flawlessly.
We both recently added a new laptop to our home wireless networks. We are trying to find a shared printer that is connected to a previously existing desktop. We have disabled all firewalls, shared the printer from the desktop, set the workgroup of both laptop/desktop to the same name, and enabled printer and file sharing on the laptop. When we go to add a printer in the laptop we cannot see any computers in our workgroup other than the laptop.
I can ping the desktop successfully from the laptop. I cannot ping the laptop from the desktop.
In add a printer on the laptop if I enter the IP address and printer name of the desktop (e.g. //192.169.0.4/Printer) this enables printing from the laptop! However, if I try using the desktop computer's name (e.g. //HomeComputer/Printer) the laptop cannot find the printer.
I cannot see any shared folders from either computer.
If I go to My Network Places on either computer I cannot see the other computer.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you have a big DNS issue. Are all of the devices on the network being allocated their IP addresses by a DHCP server running on the router?
