i am running windows xp home edition on my desktop and windows media centre on my laptop, i have a orange livebox but cannot seem to set up a wireless connection, first time ever tried and i am a bit green, any help on matter would be much appreciated.

I'm not familiar with the Orange Livebox. Does it come with instructions and/or and installation CD? What specifically are you having trouble with?
