local area connection messing up my internet
hi, i'm new here, and my other computer has the whole, local area connection: A network cable is unplugged, thing going on. it won't let me get on the internet, and even though i've tried the troubleshooter and disabling it, nothing seems to be working. i'm getting really frustrated, so if anybody knows how to help, i would greatly appreciate it

i am sure that means a cord is unplugged. Check all your plugs and that should be the problem

thanks for responding. i've looked around my computer for any plugs missing, but i have to say i have not noticed anything that looks strange. is there anything specific i should look for?

Do you have the LAN drivers from your motherboard manufacturer?
Most of the time, thats whats needed here.
They'll be found on your motherboard manufacturers website.

Can I just rule out the possibility that the message is a complete red herring?! Do you actually connect to the Internet through a network cable? If so, should the network cable be connected to a broadband router or a network hub or another PC?
.... or do you have a broadband modem connected to a USB port meaning that the network is nothing to do with your Internet link?
