cant find computers on the network

hi, i am trying to connect 2 PC's for file sharing and im not having much luck...

-my PC is connected via ethernet (no problems)

-the other PC says it is connected but there is no internet connection, it will not connect to the router using the i.p adress and it is not saying it is connected on the routers page (192.168.1.254 on my PC)

-Both computers are set up on the network 'HOME'

-Both computers are set-up for file and printer sharing

    -I temporerily disabled both firewalls

-Both computers only show themselves in 'Network connections'

    Could someone please help????

    Thanks
    Mike

have you asked it to find other machines on the network?

have you set them up using set up network wizard?

are they all in the same network?

are all machines using Ethernet cables?

Save 20% on AVG Internet Security 2012 Suite!
    Thanks for the reply,
i opened a wizard that tried to find networks, i clicked browse and went to 'Home' and only the computer i was using came up... yes, i used the wizard and the router only has one ethernet port so i have one wired and one wireless at the moment.

The wireless router is not connected at the moment, i was using it for a few hours and it just started to continuously dis-connect (DSL and internet) i tried turning it off, waiting and turning it back on and that didnt do anything..

I will delete everything and restore the routers settings back to default and start again... im going to my nans tomorror so i will test the router there because she never has problems with broadband and she has got a fairly new master socket fitted... i will let you know the result and try the network again!!

    Thanks,
    Mike
