Save 20% on AVG Internet Security 2012 Suite!
The configuration page for a router is normally HTML based, which means that you can access it in Internet Explorer if you know the IP address of the router.

If, for example, the router's IP address is 192.168.0.1 (which is the most common), go into Internet Explorer and, in the Address bar, type in http://192.168.0.1

That will probably bring up a username/password login box. If no username and password has been set, then the router will be using the default login credentials which will be described in the user manual or on the box .... or sometimes even on a label on the router itself.

Once logged in, you should be able to easily spot the area where security is set. Note that setting security details doesn't necessarily mean that it is being used - sometimes there is a separate option to enable the security after you've created an encryption key.

If you do not know what the IP address of the router is, go to the Windows Start Menu and select the Run option. At the Run prompt, enter cmd and click OK. The Command Prompt window (the "DOS box") will open. At the prompt, type ipconfig /all (note the space) and hit Enter. This will list the IP address details for your network card. The 'Default Gateway' should be the IP address of the router.

Let us know if that helps
