    Ethernet Cards

I just read the Sticky about USB vs Ethernet. I'm getting Wireless Broadband with the USB connection. I was wondering if I wanted to change from the USB to a Ethernet Card what other hardware will I need if the Net Connection is set up for use with the USB. Thanks guys.

if you using a USB dongle for picking up wireless get a wireless Ethernet card and put it into an empty PCI slot

wireless you'll only be getting about 54Mbps where as connected with Ethernet cable you'll maybe get 100Mbps

An Ethernet card (wired) cost about £5.00 from any PC shop and are very easy to put in normally XP will find it no problem.

A wireless card is a bit more expensive about £15.00 and fits in the same way.

if using Wireless don't forget security so others in the area can't use your internet

and with Ethernet you'll have a free USB port for other things and not be using as many resources

Well most devices support WPA so thats a start....you dont need any different software for wireless security. Just ehc built in wifi options in xp and the address of your router so you can configure it.

You could think about MAC address filtering on your router. This then only allows clients with a certain mac address to connect.

if you go wireless the will be a choice to have it secure or not secure

I'm using WEP 128bit (26 Hexadecimal Characters) on my system, around by my mothers I can log on to a unsecured system

If you do go wireless we can give you help on setting up a secure system

Hey, what I'm planning to do is this. I have two computers. One will be directly connected to the Modem the other will use the wireless feature the ADSL modem has. So help setting it up would be appreciated. One question though, can I have both computer accessing the Net at the same time? Thanks.

This does depend on the modem but considering you said it has a wifi connection I should think it would be possible.
