    Talking Help sorting this mess...

Ok...I want to setup a home network. I have tried partially unsucessfully. I have 4 computers and 2 PS2 in this house and 2 computers and a xbox in the adjacent house. The broadband comes in this house to a motorola modem to a linksys voip router with one port going to the adjacet house to another linksys router and so on. Not all computers are connected at this point. The problem is that I can't see the computers next door and vice versa. All can access the internet.

I am running a combination of XP and 98SE. Is the 2 routers my problem? I ordered an 8 port kingston switch (xbox compat.) and a 16 port D-link switch for over here.

Is there something I am doing wrong with the exsisting equipment or just wait for the switches to arrive?

Any help would be great, I read through about 16 of the 23 pages in this section.

    Ok...since still no replys....

I just got off the phone with Linksys.

I am using a Linksys rtp300 VOIP router and a standard Linksys 4 port router.

The tech said that I have to plug the ethernet from the VOIP (main router) into a port not the internet port. Then change the second routers ip address to 192.168.15.2 (main is 192.168.15.1) and finally disable the DCHP server in the second router. I am going to try this tommarrow.

I'll let you know how it works out.

Ok tried what was recommended. The computer on the second router could not see the other computers or internet. Still not sure if its the computer or router at this point. Switched things back to the way I had them before.

Save 20% on AVG Internet Security 2012 Suite!
Problem solved the old fashioned way.

I eliminated the second hub and just ran two more cat 5 cables over there to replace it.

I assigned static IPs to all the computers and turned DCHP off on all them.

Now my network goes from the cable ISP to the modem to the router to the switch to the computers.

    Hope this helps someone.
