Hi all

Can anyone help

Im trying to make my wireless network secure but everytime i give it a wep password i lose my internet connection. i way i can connect to the internet is have the password disabled.

any ideas coz its doing my head in, im sure people on my street are using my internet

have you set up the WEP password on both the router and wireless card on the PC?
are you using HEX for the password?

When u put a password in wep is creates sum kind of other password with lots of letters and numbers. i beleive thats the one that goes in windows as your password but ive tried it and its just all gone wrong.

i need sum kind of idiots guide i think on how to do it

no idea what hex is to m8

when you get to the security part of the router.

Encryption WEP
Key length put 64 bit (10 Hex Chars)
set it as HEX

in the WEP key put bb009f03aa (that's a 10 character Hexadecimal ) then apply

make a note of this code you'll need it for the machine you want to connect to the router.

when on the machine you want to connect to it will show the wireless network about but it will be secure, to connect to the network you'll need to set the key as WEP and the password as the one given (bb009f03aa)

Is it all working now?

I suggest you change the HEX key as others may be using your internet service and now they have the WEP key.

go Here let it generate a 128 bit key(it's harder to crack) write it down (copy and paste into notepad) then change the key length to 128 bit and use that one
