Re: wireless for dummies! please help!
Just a quick long shot:
Your computer date is a month off:
Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : 06 August 2006 22:19:23
Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : 07 August 2006 20:25:59
Go to start > control panel > date and time
Set the correct date and time
-
ok. will do that. still can't run my old one tho, it's windows me, sorry, should have said....
-
-
1. Click on the Start menu, and select Run...
2. Type 'cmd' in the Open drop-down menu. The command prompt window should appear.
3. Type 'ipconfig /release' (without apostrophes) and press Enter. This should release your IP settings.
4. Type 'ipconfig /renew' (without apostrophes) and press Enter. This should now renew your IP settings.
If this doesn't sort it then try this on the ME:
Windows 98SE or Windows ME
1. Click on the Start menu, and select Run...
2. Type 'winipcfg' in the Open drop-down menu. The Winipcfg window should appear, which lists all your PC's network settings.
3. Click the More Info button.
4. Select your Network Interface Card from the drop-down menu.
5. Your IP address, gateway and netmask should be shown.

ok, did the second one, got
IP address:192.168.1.3
Subnet Mask:255.255.255.0
default gateway:192.168.1.1
-
Did you try to release and renew the IP address?
If yes and it did not help then try typing: 192.168.1.1 into the address bar of IE.
-
okay, I'm confused now! the first one I posted was for the new computer (the one the wireless isn't working for) the one i had to type in the pconfig was the old one, that's working wirelessly at the moment.
do you want me to release and renew the new one? if so, how do I do that? the pconfig command doesn't work with it..
sorry this is taking so long!
-
sorry, totally made that command up! meant to say the winipcfg doesn't work on the new computer!
-
The XP that you changed the date on. Running wireless:
start > run > cmd
then type:
ipconfig /release
then type:
ipconfig /renew
If this does not establish a connection try typing 192.168.1.1 in the address bar of IE.

sorry, should have scrolled back to where you blatantly already asked me to do that!! two secs...
