Problems with Sitecom WL117 USB.
Does anyone have any experience with these. I have just bought the WL117 (following a review in a PC mag that seemed to think they were good) and I must have spent the best part of they day trying to get the damn thing to work.
I have a Netgear DG834PN modem/router and it is working a fine. A works laptop (presumaaly with a decent wireless adapter in!!) connects without a problem and was up and running in five minutes.
When I first installed the Sitecom USB it did detect the network. It hasn't been able to since!!! If I piddle about setting it up manually (so much for self installing and ease of configuration) I can get it to make a connection on 'Peer to Peer' setting but it refuses to connect on anything involving Access Point and/or involving DCHP which the laptop seems to not have any problems with at all and is what the router is configured for.
I a complete novice with wireless and I'm not sure if PTP is supposed to be the setting or what. All I can conclude after wasting ALL day on this is that I seem to have bought a piece of junk that doesn't work. I also don't like the fact that it has its own software installed which basically means that Windows cannot manage the wirless connection and I have to say I am not that happy with the Sitecom interface. It certainly hasn't got me very far. Even less so with the results. This thing is supposed to have a much greater range and power than a lot else but this is literally going from an open office to an open bedroom door 20 feet away - result nothing.
Any help would be much appreciated. At present, unless I get it to work within 72 hours my plan is to return it for an exchange for something that does work or a refund. Not at all impressed.
