Unhappy LAN is "connected", but apparently TCP/IP is not enabled..........

    Hi there!

I'm going nuts here - I've just taken delivery of a Dell D400 laptop with a fresh install of XP Pro SP2.

My wireless connection seems to work fine - I happily connected by the pool at the Cococabana Palace Hotel (and yes, I did look like a w***er) - however when I plug in my LAN cable at home (and at work, for that matter) I'm getting no joy.

The LAN connection tells me it's connected, but when I click 'Repair' I'm told that "TCP/IP is not enabled for this connection".

Which is strange, because all the boxes are checked...............

Usual properties (obtain IP address automatically) - but in the connection status box I've got absolutlely nothing.

    I've got a "1394 Net Adapter" apparently

    Please help!

This is now a bit more confusing - I've unplugged the network cable, rebooted, and the thing still thinks it's connected (1394 Connection, Connected, 1394 Net Adapter)

I have no idea what's going on - Please help!!

Okay, so I've figured out that the 1394 Connection is the firewire connection, which must mean that I don't seem to have a Local Area Connection at all (just the firewire & the Wireless Network Connection) - What's going on there?

I was a bit suspicious when there was no ethernet adapter listed when I ran ipconfig/all from the cmd prompt...............

    Aarrrrrrrrrhhhhhhh!!!!

Okay - basically the problem is that the drivers for the modem & ethernet aren't installed - any tips?

Sorted - just needed some drivers.

Specifically, which drives did you install. Was it the Ethernet drive? I've had the exact same problem as you have had. It been a real pain in the butt! Any help you can provide is appreciated.
