    Question Wired Network

Hi I have recently set up a home network using a wired connection my PC is the main computer and my laptop is the other computer on the network.
Everything is ok main PC and laptop can share files and printer etc.
My only problem is When I have the internet on the PC (it is set to share in the advanced properties ) I cannot get it on the laptop.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Regards

Do you have a Firewall that allows/bars connection to the Internet?

    or

Can you right click on Network Places to see if you have allowed other computers on the same network to connect to the Internet via your main PC?

I think what Ragebe was getting at is that, although your PC is allowing the laptop to connect through it, the laptop might not actually be trying! On the laptop, go into My Network Places, right-click the network connection and then select Properties from the menu. Double-click the TCP/IP entry. It will show you the IP address, Network Mask (subnet) and Default Gateway. Set the Default Gateway to be the IP address of your main PC.

Let us know how you get on

Hi thanks for the reply I have managed to get the network established on both computers even the internet connection is established as shown on attatchment ( at least I think it is).
The only thing is now how to get Internet Explorer to work? I have attatched Connections from Internet Options I am at a loss as to which setting to choose.
I am ok with other connections but this is all new to me.
    Regards.

I was a little confused by this to start with when I set up my home network as well. You actually don't want the laptop trying to make its own connection - it needs to send a request to the network for the web site address and, when the web site can't be found on the network, it should automatically forward through the main PC to the Internet.

In Internet Explorer's connection settings, try switching it to 'Dial whenever a network connection is not present'. If that doesn't work, click the LAN Settings button and fill in the IP address of your main PC that is acting as the proxy server. Your main PC should continue to connect to the Internet in its usual way.

Let us know if that helps

I have a similar set-up and had to make some changes to ZoneAlarm/Firewall/Advanced Settings: Interent Connection Sharing. Sounds like it's pretty much resolved now though.
