RPC server unavailable
I have a router connection and from 4 computers one of them suddently cannot connect to the internet anymore. In cmd ipconfig/renew sais RPC server is unavailable and searched the microsoft.com about it but somehow I cannot make it work.
I can ping the IP but I cannot ping an address like ping www.sears.com for example.
I mention that I am talking about an HP laptop Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz, Windows XP SP2
Does anyone has a clue how I can fix it??
Thank you,
Blys

Go to Start> Run and type net start rpcss. Hit enter and then try to connect to the net again.

when I typed in the command net start rpcss the command window appears and disappears in 1 sec.Tried already many times, I don't even have time to see it on the screen.Even tried to do that in safe mode but does same things. I mention that for other commands it works perfect.
Thanks

Hi Blys,
If you go to Start > Run and type in cmd to open a Command Prompt window, then type net start rpcss, it shouldn't disappear off of the screen so you'll be able to see what results message it gives you
When you do a ipconfig /all at the command prompt, does it list a DNS server on your network connection? DNS is the service that's used to resolve IP addresses into names.
