Voyager 2100 Printer File Share Problems
Hi
I recently setup a BT Voyager 2100 ADSL Router with a Desktop and Laptop computer. Both machines run XP Home SP2. The Desktop is connection to the Ethernet port of the router and the Laptop uses WiFi connection. I have Internet access from both machines. I have a problem with file and printer sharing. The Desktop has a printer connected to it and sharing is enabled. During setup of the network I chose file and printer sharing on both machines. The file sharing sort of works one way, from the Desktop I can see the shared files on the laptop but not the other way. On the Laptop when I try to add a printer I get the browse option and I can see the network name, I highlight this and type in the share name in the printer box but get an error message that I do not have sufficient privelages to access. I have tried numerous possible soloutions but all fail with the same message. BTW this same message appears if I try to view files on the Desktop from the Laptop. I enabled the guest account on the Desktop, read somewhere this might help, but no change.
Could the problem be with the ethernet link from router to Desktop?
This is very frustrating can anyone help?

Do you have any firewall software running on any of the machines (including Windows firewall)? That could be the problem! And the firewall is most likely enabled on the Desktop since that's the Laptop that can't get inside. Try disabling all firewalls and see if the file sharing works! Also on the laptop try booting up into the Safe Mode with Networking and try accessing each other.
- Have you tried PINGing both computers by each other? ("start"->"run"->"cmd"->type:"ping 0.0.0.0 -t" - see if you can get the reply from it, where 0.0.0.0 should be replace by the IP address of the other computer on the network!
(To check IP go to "start"->"cmd"->type:"ipconfig"->enter)
Good luck!

Hi Mathew
Thanks for your reply>
I dissabled all firewalls on both machines but still the same result. Each computer is able to ping the other, but I still have the same problem in that I cannot access the printer or files on the DeskTop from the laptop.

Is the Printers and Files sharing enabled on the laptop? Also how do you connect those two? Through the router or directly to each other?

Files sharing is enabeled for sure as I am able to see the Laptop files from the Desktop, as there are no printers installed on the Laptop ( the add printer wizard can't see the printer on the desktop) then I guess printer sharing may not be enabled on the Laptop.
The Desktop is connected to the router via ethernet port and the laptop via wireless.
