Set up wireless network for Wanadoo ADSL broadband connection
Hi, I'm new here, so sorry if I don't use the appropriate jargon. I wish to set up a wireless network in my home for up to three laptops and one other (additional to the main computer) desktop PC. I have Wanadoo Broadband which came with an ADSL modem. One lead plugs into a splitter (for the phone line) and the splitter goes into the BT phone line. The other lead coming out of the little box (hmm, really technical) goes into the USB port in the main computer. Which sort of router should I get to set up a wireless network and what would I need to put into the computers to make them connect to it and, if you're feeling really helpful, how should I set it all up. I suspect you've been asked more or less this before, but unless it really applies to me, I have no idea if I should do it. I am considering this router/modem: Netgear DG834GT 108Mbps Wireless ADSL Modem Firewall Router with 4-port 10/100 switch
Found it on Amazon. I can drill no holes in floors or put down any cables, I don't know if that hinders anything. I'll shut up now. Thanks for any help.

Come on guys, give me a hand.

That router should do the job. You will need wireless adapters for each of the computers. You are best to get the same make as the router. You will have to check if the laptops have already got wireless cards built in. You may initially have to use cables during the setup process. There are numerous tutorials on how to network available on the internet.

Thanks very much. I just needed that comforting little voice saying, "Yes, that's right. Do that." And that's exactly what you gave me. Sorry for being so ignorant in these matters. Hopefully fiddling about with the network will educate me in networking, as well as making me extremely frustrated. Thanks again. I'll be coming back here with all my computer wories. Oh yes, you'll be seeing plenty of me.
