    Post Vpn Help

    Heres my setup

I have a windows xp pro machine at home, and one in a different location

I need to be able to see each computer in the repective "my network places"

    Here's what I did

I allowed incoming connections on both machines

and then i connected to them on both machines

The status monitor showed that we were exchanging data, but i couldnt view them in my network places.

    Anyone know?

    Hello,
I have asked this on the forums, but no one really seems to know. I have a setup that looks likethis . I have set up what I think to be a vpn. I have set up one machine to accept incoming connections, and one to connect to that one. I have done that, but I still can't see the computer in my network places. Ive checked the obvious (workgroup, protocols and such) I just reinstalled all the operating systems just for this. I didn't configure anything special (check any boxes) while I was setting the connection up. Do you know of any solutions? Thanks a ton!

Save 20% on AVG Internet Security 2012 Suite!
Have you disabled or re-configured Windows Firewall (or any other firewall software that you may be using). By default, they are set to hide the PCs.

Incidentally, I had a problem that sounds the same when I tried to link my new XP laptop with my old 2000 desktop by using the XP networking wizard. However, I found that, the very first time I ran the wizard, it linked up. Any subsequent log off or reboot lost it all again. I only needed the link for a few days so I left both machines permanently connected.

I know that's not actually a solution but, if you find that they link up immediately after running the wizard, that might give you another angle to work on. Also, try mapping a shared network drive (Tools menu in Windows Explorer)
