    Network issue

Hello all. I have Windows XP Professional and am having an issue with my home network, specifically my Family PC. It suddenly quit allowing me to access the internet, yet I can see all the other computers on my home network. All the other computers can connect to my cable internet and see the network. When I go into my D-Link wireless/lan router I can see no log of my Family PC trying to obtain an IP addy from my router.

What is going on with this???? I bought a new NIC card and that did me no good. I tried switching slots and still the same thing. I am at my wits end with this! It shouldn't be this complicated!!! HELLLLPPPP!!!!!

    Welcome to D-A-L!

Did you make any changes to this computer; hardware; software; that may have coincided with this sudden event?

Perhaps worth a try to do a System Restore to a point prior to the sudden event.

    Thanx for the welcome.

No, no software or hardware changes to speak of. I have system restore turned off because it would take too much space to keep a restore point on my PC. I use it for work and such and a restore point would just make me lose alot of info.

Like I said, it is weird because I did nothing and yet I can see my other computers on my home network but not get to the internet. I tried a release/renew and it tells me the IP has already been released, when I try a renew it says that the requested provider cannot be established.

Could it be something in my D-Link router/switch? I have a wireless/wired router and the PC in question is hard wired. Could my cat5 patch cable be bad and still allow me onto the LAN, even though my tester shows all 8 wires in the cable as good?

(edit...if you reply and I don't respond, I am not being rude, it is beddy-bye time here in the midwest....lol)

Ok, apparently I hadn't disabled the system restore. I tried restoring to a previous good configuration, still no or limited connectivity. Changed the cable. Still the same. Little or no connectivity. Hooked my laptop up to the patch cable, got on the network and the internet no problems. The problem has to be in that individual PC. Is there anything else to try or am I resolved to reinstalling Windows??? This PC has a brand new NIC installed yesterday.

Did this problem start with the previous NIC Card?

Have you checked the Device Manager: RT click My Computer then click Manage then Device Manager or go to start/run/ devmgmt.msc for any "!"

Also: look in your Event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
Or: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or Start/Run/ eventvwr
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. Click error line for details.
Post back the source & event id especially of errors that seem to coincide with this issue.

Also what do you get by Start/Run/ cmd & type ipconfig /all

Started with original SMC 10/100 card so I figured the card must be bad from my experience with the wonderful equipment the cable company provides...lol

Bought a new NIC and installed it. Shows up in the device manager, says it is working properly.

IPconfig /all shows the normal stuff but I have this other thing that says it is a tunnel adapter
it's name is Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-interface.

Gives an IP address in MAC form.

    Have I been Hijacked????/

I give up. Copied all of my important files and program data onto external hard drive and deleted partition. Re-installing windows as I type.

I was just going to say...

I'm not sure with D-Link, but you could try accessing the router in an IE window and making sure no parental controls or access controls were disabling only web/internet access on your Family Computer.

Save 20% on AVG Internet Security 2012 Suite!
Already checked that out, but thanks anyway. I am halfway through re-installing all my stuff. Working on SP2 right now. SLOW SLOW SLOW. lol
