Personally I would get a USB instead of PCI wireless card because you can posiiton it more easily for a strongest signal. The only other warning Iwould give is that if you play online games a lot you'll find your latency suffers as a result. Oh and don't forget to turn WEP on so that your neighbours don't use your broadband for free.

I have followed the discussion regarding BT Basic package to convert over to a wireless network for a friend.

Details are; Bought a Netgear DG834V2 did all the checks and connected to micro filter and network cable to laptop PC. The install disk starts up which logs in to the Netgear site at Http://192.168.0.1 OK and detects the user name as firstname.surname@btinternet.com have tried the correct password, but will not work. The btintenet login works with www.btyahoo.com/myaccount no problem. I then tried firstname.surname@btbroadband.com using 'BT' as the password, still no joy!!! Also tried firstname.surname@btbroadband.com with password used to get in to my account, no joy. I have tried updating firmware to latest version but not Beta version. Still no joy.
Also tried resetting modem/router by holding reset button in on back for 20secs
No result. The TCP/IP is set to auto.
Some question also; Does the DG834G require it own adapter to interface with the net i.e. local LAN connection or does it work off of the BT adapter which is set to never dial a connection as per net gear help line instructions.
I have also seen a panel with authentication which has firstname.surname@btbroadband.com then a sixteen digit password does this have anything to do with. If anybody knows how to configure this Netgear unit I will be very grateful.

This isn't my area of expertise but BT have told me that there isn't a password used for the standard BT Broadband connection. Have you tried it with firstname.surname@btbroadband.com and no password?

The Netgear router will require a WAN connection as it is going outside of any internal Local Area Network (LAN) inside your building. However, I believe that routers are usually internally programmed to make their own connection to the outside world as soon as they are plugged in. It sounds like Netgear advise to disable the BT connection so that it doesn't try to make a second connection and cause a conflict.
