Improve wireless reception
We have a wireless broadband "setup" in our home. We started out by purchasing service from verizon. We received a combination modem and router (Westell327W) from verizon.
We struggled for a while but could never get good sharp reception in our most remote bedrooms. They are about 40 feet from the Westell modem/router and on the floor above.
We recently thought that by purchasing a Cisco-Linksys Wireless-G BB router (WRT54G) we could enhance the broadcast ability of what we thought was an underperforming Westell device. The purchase was made and installed successfully--however somewhat clumsily--by placing the Linksys device at the location of the Westell modem/router.
Our reception at the most remote locations has not improved and we (as complete novices) are thinking that line of sight and a location closer to these remote locations might improve our reception results. However, if we do this relocation as the Westell and the Linksys are currently configured, it appears that we would have to extend both cables which now connect the two devices. That seems rather laborious and clumsy yet we would be open to good technical advice.
Is there a technical wizard out there that would like to weigh-in on our circumstances and offer any advice which we as novices can understand? Thank you for your previous assistance and we look forward to your observations.
