    ADSL Speed Expectations

My local ISP recently claimed to increased connection speed for ADSL connections. Before the increase, I was getting connection speed test results around 210k on a supposed 256k dsl connection. I figured I could live with that. However, we are now supposed to have a 786k connection. The best speed test results has been 476k. Is this a reasonable expectation for the connection speed in this situation?

    Thanks in advance.

I apologize for wasting disk space on this post. Evidently, this forum can not supply an answer to my question.

Sorry but there are a lot of variables involved. Have you contacted your ISP and phone company? Is the exchange enabled for that speed? It could be a problem with the phone line. The trouble is in these instances they always blame each other. I am getting about 440 on a 512 connection, however even if my ISP ugraded to 1mg I would still never be able to get more than 512.

as Jaynee says "there are a lot of variables involved" depends on time of day, contention ratio you may only be able to get max 512 where you live altho' the ISP have upgraded you if your local exchage hasn't been enabled sorry thats it

I had contacted my ISP. As expected, I received the response that "It must be something on your end." They wanted to bring a laptop down to check things out. When I informed them I had hooked up a P4 3.06 brand new out of the box system and did some of the speed tests available on the internet, they started looking on their end.

The ISP fessed up to having problems with their systems. After which, my connection speed has risen to a level that I would expect. Thanks to all that finally provided some feedback.

    Question answered.
