    Angry Lost Internet Connection

And I have looked everwhere too

Anyway, last night I was able to surf without difficulty, yet this morning, when i started up my computer, it was not able to connect to the net. I get a icon with 2 computor screens and a little spark running between them. It shows the local area connection, speed 100, Acquiring network address. Support tab shows Invalid IP address with ip and subnet addresses of all 0.0.0.0
If I attempt to repair the connection I get a message that windows could not finish repairing the problem because it could not renew the IP address.

So far I have rebotted the computer several times, rebooted both the D-link ADSL Modem and the Linksys router several times, contacted my ISp and have had them look at the problem, and can access the network via my laptop.

I have changed out the ethernet card with a new one as well. What am i missing?

My computer is a p3 1Ghz, just did a brain transplant today on it, wasn't connecting before the cpu upgrade either. windows xp pro sp2, 512 meg ram, realtek ethernet card, d-link ADSL modem, Lynksys router.

My wifes computer and my laptop all connect to the net through the same router without issues.

    Any help apperciated as always.

just a shot in the dark: this solution usualy applies after a repair install:

open START > RUN > regedit

    navigate to this key

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\RasMan\PPP\EAP]

first off export the key to your/my documents as backup

    then delete the values 25 & 26

    reboot

Like altering system files, modifying the registry can be risky and D-A-L.com and its members cannot accept liability for any adverse effects caused by following advice freely given on this site.

    Are you running XP?

I'm sort of out of my depth here but just passing along info from searches.

    such as:

After you configure with the static address can you ping the default
    gateway?

And also can you give us the network monitor capture and the error you are
getting while you are renewing the ip address (ipconfig /renew).

You can install the network monitor tool from Add/Remove
Programs->Add/Remove Windows components-> Managing and Monitoring
    tools->Network Monitoring tools.

    yep XP Pro SP 2

I am even more out of my league here, I tried to install the network monitoring tools, but I couldn't find it listed in the add components section.

As far as what I get when I run IpconfigI get "the RPCserver is unavailiable"

What happens when you attempt to run NSLOOKUP?

    Here is a rambling thread:
    http://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.c...=177979&page=1

Hopefully with the above info someone will be along more familiar with networks.

At least there's a bit to go on.

    running nslookup I get
    Default servers are not available
    Default Server: Unknown
    Address: 127.0.0.1

I wiill read over the rest later,it is too late to think now, try again in the morning

For what it is worth, I can not even ping the router, and if I enter the router IP address directly into IE (192.168.1.1) I still get a page not found.

The link provided basically is for when the computer has probelms with DNS, but can access through an IP address, I cant do either
