Home network problem (Windows XP crash)
I seem to be having a problem with my home network. I have bought the NETGEAR 54Mbps Wireless router (WGR614) , and the Netgear PCI card (WG311 v2). I installed the router base to my first computer with ease, but the second omputers wireless PCI card is not working.
System specs:
AMD Athlon XP 3000+
512MB DDR-333
Windows XP SP2
HP Computer (Bought DEC26,04)
-----
Now, i installed the card easily, and followed the instructions carefully, after startup, windows XP launches a message that states:
Disable Windows XP configuration Manager - To fully use your WG311 v2 adapter using the NETGEAR Smart Wireless settings Utility, you need to deselect Windows XP Wireless network Configuration utility. To choose NETGEAR... Click Yes.
When i click yes, windows XP Shuts down (Goes black like a power failure), and my computer reboots displaying this message:
Microsoft Windows
The system has recovered from a Serious error.
>Send error report >Don't Send
Thios isnt good, so when that message came up again i pushed NO, same thing happened. If i leave the message in the background, i can connect to the Wireless network, and everything.
Need help, NETGEAR is to busy to provide Support due to Christmas.

puterno,
I must be missing something. I am having this very problem, but I don't understand what a USB adaptor has to do with this at all. Can you please explain?

Yes and it will help all of us that have never used wireless ........

Word of advice, do not use Netgear if you are running WindowsXP SP2. There is a compatibility problem between the two, especially the newer higher speed routers. It is very difficult to setup and if you are successfull, you'll discover that your laptop will repeatedly lose the signal from the router. Switch to another wireless manufacturer.
