Hi. I recently installed a system as above. I have been using Internet Explorer as my browser. The problem I have is that following a period of inactivity, the Medion computer cannot find a DNS server to generate an IP address and the computer hangs. If I enter an IP address directly then all is ok. I have to reboot in order for it to function correctly again. Has anybody got any ideas as to why this is happening.

I'm moving this to the firewalls and networking forum, this sounds more hardware related than to do with Internet Explorer.

Hi. I have now installed Mozilla Firefox as the browser and all is working ok again.
Goodness knows what is going on with Internet Explorer but it would be nice to find out about the problem.
On another issue, the other computer in the network has also been exhibiting a similar but not the same problem when browsing in that it sometimes could not locate a DNS server. This problem seems to be related to a recent Adaware installation which has now been removed. Again all now seems to be working OK. As an afterthought, the only common factor in all of this is that both computers are running Windows XP plus SP2 !! Is this a case of SP2' itus.

Update.
All my problems now seem to have been as a result of the ZoneAlarm Firewall installation. Having read numerous forums/threads, I tried various versions of ZoneAlarm and the only way I can consistantly achieve a permanent connection is to reduce the Firewall Internet Zone Security from the High setting to the Medium setting. Resetting the security to the High setting (which is the default) results in the dreaded "server not found" message. I hope that this info. will be of use.
