    More Wireless connection problems!

I set up a wireless connection for my parents to get onto the internet a while ago. See this thread http://www.d-a-l.com/help/showthread.php?t=5610

It was all working fine, but all of a sudden but then all of a sudden it kept on dropping the internet connection at random times, and sometimes you couldn't connect to the net though IE at all. Or use IE to access the router

All the time the computer is connected to router, the signal strength is fine and the speed is fine. All the time I can ping the router, I can ping net IP addresses, and net web addresses. The ADSL light is on the router, so it is getting data from the net.

I took my laptop over there last night, which has that mobile processor thingy in it. That can connect to the network fine, it can use the internet no problems, and doesn't drop the connection.

So it must be something to do with the PC, but I can't see what.

Was on the phone to the Belkin helpdesk for about 2 hours last night, with no joy...

Can anyone offer any advice?? I'm stuck!!

    Cheers

Well, just incase anyone ever has this problem..... my solution in the end was to do a software re-build of the thing. Wasn't much data that was needed on there so I thought it was the easiest way.

All working fine now, so I can only assume it must have been some nasty stuff sitting on the computer stopping it working. The router firewall is also now working, which wasn't before. The machine now has everything I can think of to keep it secure, so hopefully they won't have the problem again.

If pinging addresses was fine but translating into names was not then I suspect it was the DNS server settings on the one PC that didn't work.

I could ping both ip addresses and names.

It's still not working though. Re-built it all, worked for a day, but stopped again.

    I DON'T GET IT

Can ping the router, can ping net addresses and names.

Can't get on the net using a web browser and can't connect to the routers front end software using a net browser.
But this is only intermittent, sometimes it works.

It makes no sense to me at all.

So ping works always? And HTTP does not? Sounds like a firewall type issue then. Are you running XP SP2 or a personal firewall. If you disable it can you use your browser? The fact it is intermittent is odd though and not really symptomatic of what I described.

    All firewalls are turned off.
That's what I found odd. If it wasn't working at all, I could kind off understand.

What browser are you using? If it's IE have you tried repairing it?
