wireless router/sharing broadband connection

Re: wireless router/sharing broadband connection
Hi all,
I'm new here so take it easy with the PC jargon. lol.
I ran a google search hoping there was an answer for the problem I now put before you. I had no such luck but am hoping someone here can help.
I have a Dell PC on Windows ME. It has access to BT broadband via the BT 100 Voyager modem. I now have a laptop on XP. I wanted to share the internet access between laptop and PC. I went out and bought a BT ADSL wireless router modem. I went home thinking I can do this....I mean, how hard can it be. So, I followed the 5 step guide but got suck on step 3....Apparently I had to install an ethernet adaptor. I basically connected the modem to the phone socket-via microfilters, and the ethernet cable from the modem but had nowhere to put the other end of the cable...my PC had no space in the back. I then went out and bought a USB ethernet adaptor and installed it. I stuck the adaptor into my USB Hub, disconnected, uninstalled my 100 bt standard voyager, stuck the ethernet cable into the adapter, then into the modem. You'd think it'd work now huh...fat chance. My PC then went crazy, wouldn't start..kept saying: Windowa Protection Error, please restart- It would only run in Safe Mode :S In the end, I disconnected everything, reconnected what was there and then got back online.. :S
I'm figureing either I havent networked the machines properly or I don't need a USB ehternet adaptor but a networking card, with a port for the ethernet cabal to go in to...
I'm going to try it all one last time b4 I return the whole lot to PC world and stick to being wired up
MD
