    Unhappy Matsonic MS8038EP video/AGP problems

    Hi,

I am putting together a budget system based on Matsonic MS8038EP MOBO, AMD Athlon 800, Fuji 13GB HDD using all the integrated video, audio and lan ports.

As this board came as second hand, there were no CD roms or manuals so I thought I'd download the drivers from the WEB. The Lan, Audio drivers kicked in (Windows ME) without problems. But I am having difficulty with installing the video and AGP drivers. None of my 3D games work, even after reinstalling windows and DirectX 8.0 . I even tried installing an AGP card - nVidia TNT, and 256, without success. The display becomes corrupt and some wont even start.

I've changed memory and diabled various options and resources just in case of conflicts but the problem stays. Could the AGP bus be the problem?

Any comments or advice would be welcome.

    Thanks

Any chance of getting hold of a PCI graphics card to test your theory?

    Hi DJ,

I'll try to use an old PCI card (it's got only 4mb of SGRAM), but I have to find it first

In the meantime does anyone know which drivers I should use with this board (Rev 3.1) to load the AGP miniport? In the BIOS POST screen the onboard SiS 730S is identified as AGP port, but installing a proper AGP video card only shows as BRIDGE VGA? Confusing!

After doing a harware scan this is the out put (installed total RAM 256MB PC133):

    Adapter Compatibility SiS
Adapter RAM 33554432 (SHARED system RAM)
    Description SiS 730s
    Installed Display Drivers sis630m.drv
    Driver Version 4.0
    Driver Date 11/01/2000
    Video Mode Description 1024 x 768 x 4294967296 colors

    DirectX Installation:

    Version 6.01.09.0727

Although I installed DirectX 9.1b, Quake3 refuses to run saying can't load OpenGL

Will appreciate any advice or comments to sort this out!

    Thanks

Try clicking on this link http://download.sis.com/ and selecting the IGP and the SIS 730's this should contain both AGP and chip drivers (hopefully).

    Hi Gabriel,

That's where I initially started (SiS) as well as MATSONIC websites. I tried installing the latest drivers first then all the others in turn. No Good

Incidently both DxDiag.exe and SiS video applets show distortion of the animation sequence. DxDiag says Texture AGP not available (Primary SiS 730s). I tried forcing AGP x1 on an old TNT2 using regedit but no help either.

Where can I set the AGP Aperture value, the BIOS does not include any entry for this. Is this preset by default?

I am just about giving up on this board. I've seen an exactly similar board a few months ago running Ut2003 just fine with Geforce2 MX - may be AGP hardware fault?

Anyway thanks for your attempts and would appreciate any other ideas before I totally give up on it.

    Regards,

    Mat Sonic
