Dell 2100 sound driver issue
Hi,
Im having major problems trying to get the audio to work on a Dell 2100. Its Windows XP with SP3 and fully patched.
The driver from the dell website or the realtek one for that matter keeps failing with an error of Realtek HD audio driver failure, error code:0xe0000227.
There are a couple of websites on the net that list this as a fix:
) open device manager click "system devices" disable "microsoft UAA bus driver for high definition audio"
2)uninstall "UAA bus driver" make rescan devices (Note: Not all had this step. You may want to skip it.)
3) install realtek driver the realtek driver includes the UAA driver too.
I have followed the steps and it just doesnt want to play once i disable the uaa bus driver i can complete the driver installation without the initial error but once i restart the machine it picks up a new device called Media and wont find any file to install despite me pointing it at various directorys.
Does anyone have any ideas? Any help greatly appreciated.
cheers
sorry if this is the wrong forum.

Is this a Dell Dimension 2100?
If so, the Dell site provides the following;
Drivers & Downloads
It only lists up to Win 2000, however those drivers should work in XP.

argh i didnt realise i hadnt put the full model type in its actually a Lattitue net book
-
Try the audio drivers from Dell..............
Drivers & Downloads
If that doesn't work, the error code 0xe0000227 led me to;
Realtek

Yeah ive tried both links
after a bit more digging i think the issue is related to service pack 3 and the The Universal Audio Architecture - but i cant remove sp3 on the machine in question so not sure sure what to do reinstall with sp2 and then try the drivers looks the best option at the moment

".... but i cant remove sp3 on the machine in question....."
Why? Is there something unique about your machine? It should be removable through "Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs".
Also, what is the Model of this Latitude?

Yeah its a different way of installing things. Its not just a standard install off a cd then install service packs. Its a fudged version of windows deployment service thats had the updates slipstreamed into the base OS image as i understand it.
Its a lattitude 2100 netbook -
After rebuilding one of the machines manually to SP2 i was able to install the drivers and then install SP3 and everything works fine.

"It works." That's what I was hoping to hear.
That fits in with what I've heard several times now. "Uninstall SP3, then install drivers, then reapply SP3. Good ol' Microslop.
