Hello to all,

I recently just had this problem with my dvd drive. I have a Compaq presario F750 labtop, and the dvd drive all of a sudden just stop working. I tried ejecting it but will not work. the only way the tray opens is if I restart my computer during the black screen it opens, but cannot read any disks. If anyone can help me out, it will be most appreciated. thank you!

Windows rarely needs specific drivers for an Optical Device.

The best first test is to delete it in Device Manager, then reboot the machine. Windows will find it and assign appropriate drivers for it. If it fails again, the drive is probably (going) defective.
