Hello,
The computer on which I work on for my job has had a problem with it since I started working here. As it does not appear to be a threat we haven't bothered to get it fixed, but it does get annoying so I thought I'd try and finally resolve the issue.
Whenever the computer is shut down, a blue screen comes up very quickly with an error message, something about the computer not being shut down properly, and then the computer is restarted. I then have to shut down the computer from the login screen, and then it shuts down fine.
I think that the problem is to do with a supposed attached hardware which does not have a driver. Device manager says that the hardware is called MFP Server Detector01, but I haven't got a clue what this device is, I've had a look and all I can see that is plugged into the computer are the keyboard, mouse, speakers, monitor and ethernet cable. So I tried to disable and uninstall the hardware, but it just keeps coming back. I've tried to download the driver for this hardware, but it says that Windows could not find driver software for this device, and obviously I can't check the manufacturer's website because I don't even know what the device is!
I really hope someone can help me, many thanks if you can![]()
Hi and welcome to the forum,
Please say you are not using a business computer with an IT department as we do no assist nor take responsibility for helping when the business has professional IT help. The computer on which I work on for my job has had a problem with it since I started working here. As it does not appear to be a threat we haven't bothered to get it fixed, but it does get annoying so I thought I'd try and finally resolve the issue. How are you shutting down your computer?Whenever the computer is shut down, a blue screen comes up very quickly with an error message, something about the computer not being shut down properly,This is the correct way to shutdown your computer in the quote above - start > turn off computer.I then have to shut down the computer from the login screen, and then it shuts down fine.
I suggest you do a Hardware Scan and post back with the results as it will identify your suspected hardware problem.
I googled MFP Server Detector01, are you on a network? You can browse through the results above to see if any can correct your problem, (bottom link looks promising) but firstly let us have the result of your hardware scan to offer further help to you.
kind regards,
Hi, thanks a lot for your reply
Oh no no don't worry, I actually work with a very small company who handle electrical contractors, I've just been hired to take care of the admin side of things, it's just a standard home computer I'm using.
I do always shut down my computer from the start menu, but when I'm logged in is when I have to problem. Once it restarts itself, I shut it down before logging in at all and it shuts down fine. I've also tried switching users when logged in and it also causes it to restart itself with the blue screen error.
Here's my scan results (It wouldn't let me post a link):

I've got a feeling it's a wireless printer that we no longer use. We currently use 2 wireless printers, a Canon iR3170Ci and a HP Officejet Pro L7600.
Thanks a lot.
Well, MFP normally refers to multi-function printer, so I suspect you are right.I've got a feeling it's a wireless printer that we no longer use. We currently use 2 wireless printers, a Canon iR3170Ci and a HP Officejet Pro L7600.
I see in your log above a Canon LBP5100, but no iR3170. You might want to look at your printers in Control Panel and see what you have there, and what is set to default.
Oh, I didn't know that :P
Number 3 in the list of the printers is the iR3170Ci? That's the default printer in control panel. I don't know what the other printers are except for the HP one. Actually there are 2 for HP, one is a fax, but they are both the same printer I'm sure. Could the Canon printers actually be the same as the iR3170i one? Sorry if I'm making little sense, I'm not very knowledgable in this area, as you can see![]()
I don't think so - they look a little different.Could the Canon printers actually be the same as the iR3170i one?

Ah okay, I've been told that the Canon LBP 5100 is a printer we used to have but it's not here anymore. I also don't know what the other printers are really, or how to solve my problem :S I'll research into what each of them are though, see if I can find a solution
Have tried deleting the Canon from your Control Panel > Printers applet?

Thanks for the quick reply, I just tried it, deleted both Canon LBP5100 and the copy, but it hasn't made a difference...
You deleted the Canon and rebooted and it still gave you the BSOD? Do you see the Canon or this Detector in still in Device Manager? If so, try deleting them from there.
