Need driver cdrw/dvd rom
Hi I have a hp paviion ze4200 that was apparently updated to ze4231. my cdrw/dvd rom just disappeared. It has a yellow mark in device manager and says i have no driver. Run a registry program through and believe that this caused me to loose a few other drivers as well. any help would be grateful. I am running OS: XP Home Edition Sp 3. Have no drivers backed up, cant rollback etc.Just need driver so laptop can recognize the drive. Many thanks to whoever is able to help me.

Go back to the Device Manager and right click on the drive and choose Uninstall.
Not the driver but the drive itself. You will be warned you are removing the device & just say yes ok.
Restart your computer and XP will reload the necessary drivers.

Thanks Jephree, did that, got message no driver backed-up or corrupt or missing file, error 39 or 59. Still trying other options but havent found one that worked yet. have an authentic copy of OS but an IT specialist broke it when he ejected it while it was spinning around like crazy. Lost cd/rom at computer shop when InCD was deleted from my computer. Thanks for your help

The drivers for optical drives, hard drives, floppy drives, etc come with windows and (usually) not from the manufacturer. Uninstalling it should do the job. Did you restart the computer after words? What else have you tried? Have you tried using a restore point? Right click on my computer --> manage --> event viewer --> windows logs --> system. Look for the errors and tell us what the most commonly recurring ones are that you have gotten recently.
