Re: Multimedia Audio Controller Missing !

Try to right click on the device manager entry and select uninstall. Now reboot the computer and reinstall the drivers. Windows will probably ask you where you want to install the driver from. Just close any messages.

There is the possibility that the audio controller is faulty on your computer and you can purchase a fairly decent sound card for around 30-40 USD.

Broni is right in that windows does not like to be moved from 1 computer to another and I'm surprised that you aren't having any more problems than you are.

Hiya Broni...actually I'm not. Like townsbg I am surprised that their only have issues with the sound. I'm surprised that there weren't more Yellow Exclamation marks on more of the Devices like the NIC or Video. WinXP does come with a fair amount of Device Drivers, it just doesn't have the latest & greatest so depending on how old the PC in question is WinXP could have the drivers onboard (ie: c:\i386 folder).

Everest may be actually reading the info from the hard drive, which concerns old settings on the other computer, so I'd say reinstalling Windows from the scratch would be your best option.

Yes, all files will be gone, so you'd have to back them up, first.

As for Windows clean install: XP Clean Install

Reinstalling windows will reformat your hard drive which will erase all of your files so it is important to have all of your documents, pics, music, etc on another drive. If you can afford to you can buy a sound card but windows doesn't work too well in a computer other than what it was installed in so you will more than likely develop other problems later on. Those problems could even be much worse than not having sound and can keep you from even using your computer at all. The only options for you are to put the hard drive back in the other computer, and hope that it still works, or to reinstall windows.

Also I'm assuming that by CPU you are referring to the computer. The actual CPU is a part in the computer.
