    USB Port

My computer has got 2 USB ports and they were working very well, thou they used to complain that you need a high speed usb port 2.o to run the flash disc after inserting the flash disc in them.

One day when i put in the flash disc, it brought a pop up that one of your usb has mulfunction and they can not recognise the flash. But when I try another flash disc, it doesn't recognise at all.

I don't know whether the drive has failed, and how can I get the drive?

    Look at your Device Manager:

right click My Computer then click Manage then Device Manager

Look for any yellow exclamation marks

    Look for any Unknown Devices

click + next to USB controllers

    Any yellow marks in there?

Also: try other types of USB devices just to see if the ports are working.

Thanks so much for the reply.
After accessing Device Manager, I got yellow ? at Other devices and at PCI Modem
On clicking + next to USB controller, There are 2 of Sis 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controller and 2 USB Root Hub consecutively in a column.

When I right click Sis 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controller,
    Under General -
Device status says, "This device is working properly"

    Under Universal Bus Controllers
    Manufacturer: Silicon Integrated System
Location: PCI bus 0, device 1, function 3

When I connect digital camera to the USB port, it works very well, but when I connect flash disc, it still fails to recognise.

I remain waiting for your further advice.

    Are you running XP?

When you insert the flash drive do you get the "ding dong" USB sound?

Do you get any indication that a new device is found?

If you insert flash drive is it listed under My Computer?

If you insert flash drive is it listed under Disk Management?

Disk Management = right click My Computer then click Manage then Disk Management

Yes I am running window XP

When I insert the flash drive, it doesn't give the "ding dong" USB sound, but just gives flash light once very fast during entering i.e. when it is not fully entered even and then the light disappears for good

I don't get indication of new device is found

When I insert flash drive, it is listed under My Computer

When I insert flash drive, it is not listed under Disk Management

I remain waiting for your advise

    Back to the Device Manager:

Is there any specific device under Other Devices?

Also under USB Controllers there are no yellow marks? Correct?

One thing to try is insert drive with the computer off then start the computer.

Can you test the flash drive on another computer with USB 2.0?

What is the make and model of this computer?

    Dear Mnanager;

No specific device under Other Devices apart from PCI Modem that has yellow ?

There is no yellow ? under USB Controllers

When I insert the flash when the computer is off and then I start the computer, there is nothing that comes up, the computer starts normaly without and complaint.

When I test the flash drive in another computer with USB 2.0, it works well

Make of my conputer is Matsonic
    System Model: MS7308E
BIOS Version: American Megatrends Inc 062710

I was looking for drivers but that Matsonic web site is an evil Trojan loader and crashed my computer.

Do you have a driver CD. I'd suggest trying to load the latest drivers.

Beyond that you might try a USB 2.0 hub.
