BIOS update for Fujitsu Siemens AMILO EL-serie
Hello!
Please can somebody help me! I have bought 2 *1 Gb memory for my quite old laptop. I tried to install it, but my computer "went nuts". So I put back old 256 Mb. I have been trying to find a BIOS update for several days (and nights
) but failed.
Is there someone out there with better investigating skills than mine? I would be SOOOO grateful.
I have detected my BIOS with AMIBIOS Motherboard Manufacturer Identification

Wtlcome to DAL.Why do you need a bios update to install ram? What kind of 1 gig ram did you buy? What did the 256nb stick say as to what kind of ram it is. This list says what kind of ram your laptop takes and it states you can go to 2 gig, nothing about bios updating though.
http://www.fujitsu-siemens.com/Resou.../562938810.pdf
2 S0-DIMM memory slots (no memory on board)
256MB DDR2 400MHz
512MB DDR2 400MHz
512MB DDR2 533MHz
1GB DDR2 533MHz
Up to 2GB with two DDR2 SO-DIMM 1 GB modules
(400/533 MHz)

I don't know about the present 256 Mb module, but the 1 Gb ones are DDR 333 CL2.5 (RDSD6408-60A). I ordered them from UCM COMPUTER MEMORY | MEMORY UPGRADES | RAM MEMORY which analysed my laptop and said thet this kind of memory would be O.K.
Their manual suggested that if there are problems, it's usually because of outdated BIOS.
Did I purchase too slow memory?
Thanks for the manual!

Man it looks like you need to return the memory they sold you and get the proper memory for your lappy. Crucial.com has a lifetime warranty, pricing is ok, and now that you know what type of memory you take you can order better. On sodimm ram it also makes a bit of difference if the stick is high or low density ram. Low density means lots of chips and is more compatible while high density is less chips and is not as compatible as low density ram sticks.. I don't believe you need a bios upgrade to bump up the ram on your lappy. Just the right ram.

Thanks man for your answer, but I managed to solve my problem myself! I checked the BIOS 'chip' on the motherboard and found out that I really have AMI BIOS. Then I Googled the the label on it: 686 AMIBIOS NBEC 2000/ BA34 5109. I learned that my motherboard is made by Uniwill! Then I found the appropriate BIOS update for N243s9 model. I also found updated drivers for audio, video, LAN and modem. I installed all and booted. Then I put in the 1 Gb memory modules (x2) and booted - everything worked FINE :-)
I'm sorry for possible mistakes in my language and terminology, as English is not my mother language, I'm Finnish and not even a man ;-)
Nice weekend (and a lots to drink) to everyone!
