Laptop ATI Radeon 9000 Drivers needed

    Hi,

I have just reformatted the hard drive on my MESH laptop. I need to instal appropriate drivers but having great difficulty specifically with the ATI graphics drivers.

I used DriverMagic to find the drivers (MESH website is useless!). As an aside I would have thought that the manufacturer would have an easy to find page that said something like "for model XYZ download the following drivers!" Nothing like this appears on the Mesh site.

All seems ok excepte for the video drivers and DirectX. The ATI drivers won't load and I get the error messages "INF error Video Driver Not Found" and then "Set up was unable to complete the installation Use Standard VGA driver"

Where can I get the suitable drivers - at the moment my machine is very slow with any display related task.

Also I don't seem to have any DirectX installed.

    Thank you.

    Martin

    What is the exact model?

    Have you looked here:

If you cannot find anything at MESH the ATI driver would be a Mobility Radeon:

    http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html

    They show a 9800; 9700; 9600.

I have an Intel chip, is it OK to use the AMD Catalyst driver pack?

    Martin

PS I tried the MESH site, I registered my laptop when I first got it but the reference Icon for my machine when I log in to the Mesh site does not respond. (A later one for my daughters machine works OK). I tried to re-register but the system did not recognise my serial number. I think they are only interested in new machines. I won't ever purchase from them again if that is the case.

    Martin

PPS Thank you for rapid reply - I'm amazed!

If your graphics device is Intel you need Intel drivers.

Why did you think it was ATI?

Do you know the exact Intel chip?

Because on the machine is a label (original) that says ATI Radeon Mobility 9000

Sorry to be tedious but why now do you think it is an Intel chip?

    Anyway:

I have the handbook here and it says Intel Pentium 4 processor (3.06GHZ) and ATI Mobility M9 128MB DDR graphic memory. Fully DirectX 8.1 compliant.

I tried the Catalyst pack but just got error messages.

    Thank you

    Martin

Problem really is that i have to give a major presentation next week using video and can't get my laptop to work!

I would try the ATI 9600 or 9700 or 9800. Trial and error.

The only "legacy" driver I can find for a specific 9000 is only for Windows '98.

See what happens when you try to install the current drivers:

    http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html

I am assuming that MESH did not provide a Driver CD? But they did supply a Recovery CD?

Further reading shows ATI did not carry drivers for M9 as it was a proprietary issue i.e. MESH drivers.

Might try these just for why not:

    http://www.drivershq.com/Drivers/Dev...1/Drivers.aspx

    http://www.driverheaven.net/windows-...5&pagenumber=1

This is the "Legacy" link from ATI for '98 drivers for the 9000 chip:
