    Desperately need help...

I am using is a Japanese Vaio. I decided to reformat it and install XP. The reformat went smoothly, the only problem are the drivers. I didn't check in advance, but the computer did not come with a driver disk (...), and their website does not have the drivers either.

I actually only need access to the internet, the other drivers I don't neccesarily need. Any help with getting the ethernet drivers would be much appreciated.

For reference, I used the hardware scan program on that computer and here is what came up...

What is the exact Vaio model?

That is about the only source for drivers and they should be there.

    http://esupport.sony.com/perl/select...IRECTOR=DRIVER

Did you change Operating Systems? You also need XP SP2.

Shoot sorry. The model is VGC-LA53B . Once I get the internet working I will update it to sp2.
I actually tried that website earlier... but because my computer is a Japanese model it is not included there.

You may need to contact Sony.

I can only get US support and they do not list your model.

    Sorry

I've spoken with their tech support... They are kinda incompetent.

is there any way I can find out what driver is needed for the Ethernet controller itself?

Trial and error is all I can suggest:

    http://www.css.ap.sony.com/vaio/

    Click "Download Only" then "Go"

    Ethernet Driver Version 8.7.9.0

I checked through all the entries, but they didn't seem to help.

Would there be any way that I open up the computer and check through the hardware to find out what specific driver I can download (or basically any alternative rather than getting it from Sony...)
