Hello - been lurking a few days, but can't seem to find what I need... I just built a new rig a week ago (first comp upgrade in 5 years, and first time building a computer... a friend who knows what he's doing helped; only reason why I mention this is that I'm a complete noob when it comes to this stuff). I can't seem to get my Soundmax set up right - tried uninstalling, dowloading, reinstalling & uninstalling, redowloading, reinstalling & uninstalling, redowloading, reinstalling... but to no avial.

My stereo sound seems fine, but it won't recognize my mic. For 3 glorious hours yesterday I got the mic to work while playing a game; then the game crashed and the mic went out. I've treid 3 different mics & multiple setups of soundmax, but it just refuses to work (no, the mic isn't muted).

My question: are there drivers - or even full software sets - that I can download to use instead of soundmax? Would that even solve the problem?

My motherboard is an ASUS P5NSLI, and its soundboard is ADI 1986A SoundMAX... I'm at my wits end here; any help would be appreciated. Hell, I don't even know if I'm posting in the right place.

I'm running XP, sp2 and my DirectX specs are attached.

After 20+ hours of labor & research, I broke down & bought a new sound card; cleared the problems right up!
