Sound Driver Problems?

Sound Driver Problems?
I have been having problems with my sound since today. When I first tried to join ventrilo, it said "Unable to activate DirectSound for selected device. DirectSoundCaptureCreate failed, hr = 88780078"
Since it wouldn't let me hear or communicate, I turned on my game called Battlezone 2 to see if I could hear the startup music, nothing. Well, I thought.. "Maybe my volume is just all the way down?" Nope. I went into the control panel and then sound and audio devices, and the sound part was grayed out and at the top there was the message "No audio Devices."
So I went to my smart buddy's on Bz2maps (battlezone 2's best known site) and asked the people there what I should do. The forum moderator said this:
"You need to reinstall sound card drivers or if atleast enable your sound via bios, if no sound device show on device manager.
Or make proper card plug into your pci/isa.
If you lateley add new hardware maybe you need to setup irq's via bios.
After reinstalling or new install sound driver you need to install DirectX."
Well, I enabled my sound via BIOS and when i go to:
Start>run>dxdiag.. It says I have no sound card or sound drivers. So, I was wondering what drivers do I need? Here is the most info I can give you:
Manufacturer: TriGem Computer, Inc.
Model: Imperial
Chipset: Intel i845G
Southbridge: Intel 82801DB (ICH4)
Sensor: N/A
**note** This was using CPU-Z**
I hope I gave you the right info and that you all can help me. Oh and I'm sorry I'm not a very competent person.
Thanks for the help!

I found out what my make and model for my computer was.
Emachines T2542
Does this help at all? Also, I had a buddy who works on computers tell me that the sound driver was probably on http://www.emachines.com but it only has audio driver and that didn't really help my problem. Which of those sound drivers do I need to install on that website..?
So far here is what I know about my computer:
~~~Note: ***** is a section. ------- is a subsection~~~
Make:Emachines
Model:T2542
************************************************** *******
Mainboard
************************************************** *******
Manufacturer: TriGem Computer, Inc.
Model: Imperial 1.01
Chipset: Intel i845G
Southbridge: 82801DB (ICH4)
Rev.: B1
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
BIOS
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Brand: Phoenix
Version: 6.00
Date: 09/16/2003
Does this help at all in figuring out my problem? As stated above, the audio driver for my model at --http://www.emachines.com-- was at no avail. Hopefully I can fix this problem soon because it's hard to be on a computer without sound.
Thanks again.
Both TriGem and eMachine web sites are of no help.
I suggest going to the chipset/southbridge i.e. Intel.
Did you try the driver I posted from Intel?
Audio: AC 97 ADI* (18962KB)
Yes, I did and nothing. Well, all we can do is to keep trying. Eventually, even if it takes a while, you'll/I'll figure it out.
I'll try the chipset/soutbridge thing if I can figure out what do to with the chipset/southbridge
Hmm.. Thanks and I'll see if it works.. Just got finished with the registration ^_^
Hopefully, this will work and I appreciate your help. Heh.. http://www.d-a-l.com is a really good site for the fact you all aren't people who charge like $500 just to tell you something simple. You all help the people and I appreciate that very much. Well, let me get back to downloading that driver
Sadly, no it did not work. Hmm.. Should I have mentioned to anyone that this happened this morning, when I woke up and found my computer turned off, from the previous night, when I was doing a virus/spyware scan with AVG
Free 7.5?
Also, in BIOS, should I have the onboard sound on Auto or Enabled? Earlier, it was on auto but I switched it to enabled to see if that would help, but it didn't. Should I try switching it back before I do anything?
Once again.. Thanks for wasting your time on such an incompetent person, such as myself.
I would set the BIOS to as it was although either setting should work.
The auto setting would detect and use a PCI sound card if you added one.
As to the AVG scan it wouldn't hurt to read this post:
Then post a HijackThis log in the HijackThis section for review.
Okay, I'll post the log thing in the spyware section.
