I have run Driver Detective and updated the drivers and now my laptop has no sound.
The laptop was made by Tiny with an AMD Athlon 64 3200+
The Chipset is VIA VT8383 Apollo K8T800, AMD Hammer
    motherboard name MiTAC

The manual states that the Audio Controller is

    AC97 2.1 codec, Sound Blaster Pro compatible, built-in mono microphone, 2 W
    stero speakers, volume control.

Now I am searching for the original driver Realtek AC97 Audio for VIA (R) Audio controller

Please can you either e-mail the driver or tell me exactly where I can download it.

I am a dance teacher and use my laptop for all my music so I need to get this sorted but can't find the driver anywhere

    Thanks

    Michael

Yes the OS is XP Pro
I have checked out the link you gave but my chipset No VIA VT8383 Appollo K8T800, AMD Hammer is not listed. I am looking to match the 8383 correct?
I have tried the Vinyl but it does not work.
Can you offer any further advice?
    Thanks
    Michael
When matching chipset Audio drivers the key is the Southbridge ID.

The K8T800 has a 8237 Southbridge for which my above link is the latest driver.

    Did you try that driver?

And please reply to this thread (not in private message: thanks).

    Hi Jephree,
Sorry for hassling you with private messages I'm just in panic mode
YOUR GOOD (and I'm learning) I have downloaded the driver and it showes as the original Driver AC97 Audio for VIA (R)Audio Controller but the device manager is showing a yellow explanation mark and the property message is "This Device cannot start (Code 10)"

I have tried uninstalling the driver in device manager and on reboot XP finds and installs the driver correctly (still with explanation mark)
When I run DXDIAG it says DirectSound test results: Failure at step 3 (DirectSoundCreate): HRESULT = 0x8878000a (The request failed because DirectSound resources, such as the priority level, were already in use by another caller.)
When I first had this problem XP allowed me to roll back the driver. I then tried to install C Media which came with the laptop and it would not install saying it was waiting for the sound driver. After that I had no sound again and XP said that no drivers had been stored and I could not roll back.
Thanks for your help thus far if you can get me over this last hurdle you'll go from GOOD to GOD !!
    Michael
