PCI Ethernet Controller driver needed
I have a compaq armada e500 running windows 98se.
I have recently tried networking this to another computer and in doing so found that the device status of the PCI Ethernet Controller was as follows
The drivers for this device are not installed (code 28). To reinstall drivers for this device. click reinstall device.
It does not tell me what type of controller it is using so I'm finding it hard to locate a driver for this. Can anyone tell me how to figure out what type of controller it is? or even better know where I can get a driver for it?

Look in the Device Manager for Network adapters.
-
Thats where I got the information above.
There is nothing in there that says network adapters of any sort.
Is there anything specific I should be looking for.
-
So there is nothing other than PCI Ethernet Controller ?
What is this listed under? No specific details?
What is the make and model of the computer?
Can you get it on-line?
If so run this scan:

Yep. Thats all it says. It is listed under PCI Bus with a yellow symbol of a question mark and asterix next to it
As above, It is a Compaq Armada E500
Have tried to get it on line, but also unsucceful with this at this stage as I only have a usb external modem and it doesn't seem to like this despite the fact that the usb key I have seems to work ok.
I will try other options though. Is there any other way to load the scan or is it online only?

If that is the computer the network drivers are listed here:

Thats the one.
I looked at the drivers they had listed there this morning and because I didn't know which one I needed and I didn't want to mess it up loading the wrong thing I didn't take it any further.
PC Literate to a certain point but drivers always make me slightly nervous.

Start with the first:
3Com Etherlink 10/100 PCI NIC
If that doesn't work try the next etc.
