Request for suggestions Lapto EasyNote E3
Hello All,
EASY NOTE E3 SERIES # 265 (manufactured 2004 with Combi CD Drive)
Packard bell as Title. (XP Home 1Gbt Ram, and functioning ok except I want to remove some programs (Norton Suite , Works etc; etc;, and many others, and generally cleanup and restore to normal factory default.
I can obviously remove them individually, but I want to return it to its original state minus some of the programs which I do not favour, and preserve the drivers when I reinstall.
This laptop was bought for me by my daughter who now lives in America. it has functioned well for over 18 months, is clean and free from virus'es, and no excessive TSR's in Start up.
She bought it in Holland, whilst I was till living in Germany, and bought it at a bargain price because it did not have an "Umlaut" keyboard.
Recently I wished to restore the Laptop to original state ( I have all the 3 setup disks) On Start, Programs, Acc's there is one named "Smart Restore" which should guide you through the process, Unfortunately the "Smart Restore .exe file is corrupt. This is not on any of the disks, and contacting Packard Bell has not been helpful.
I have tried to get this from Packard Bell, and they say my computer has never been registerd with them, although they have identified it from the Serial number I gave them, and confirmed it was bought in the Netherlands (NEC)
They add that it is well over warranty date. 17-18 months, and they cannot support it.
I am quite familiar with computers, and at first this seemed fairly simple, but without this EXE file, I cannot proceed in the normal way, as there is no such file on the support disks.
and part of the re-installation is via the Internet after the initial setting up to download SP2 etc:
There is a config/start up disk one can download from PB, but that is for earlier models Win 98, Mill, 2000 etc.,with floppy drive, and leads you to DOS(which I am very famiar with) but it refers to Win 98 and when giving the details to enter my serial number, there is insufficient space to enter all the numbers & characters in the box provided.
Does any one on this site know where I can get this .exe FILE , it is not a driver as such and is not listed on the dozens of sites I have visited.
An XP home CD is not supplied, and the XP/OS is on an hidden partition. hence the need to use PB's Smart Restore, using the 3 support CD's when requested by the Wizard.
Thanking you all in anticipation of a reply.
Kind Regards
Raphael UK & D
Please excuse the long post (and my English)
