CD-ROM disabled with printer installation
Installing an HP Photosmart 2575 All-in-One on my Dell PC running XP Home disables the drivers for my CD and DVD drives. Device Manager cites Error Code 32. HP and Dell reps have had me try uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers and removing the upper and lower filters in the registry. Nothing worked. I can recover the drives by removing the printer and doing a system restore but I can't get the printer and CD/DVDs to work together. Microsoft's explanation of Error 32 is that the start type for the drivers are set to disabled in the registry. If uninstall/reinstall doesn't work they recommend changing the start type using Registry Editor but don't explain how. Where can I find instructions on how to locate the start type for these devices in the registry and what values to change?
