Once you verify the MOBO (VIA chipsets) as jephree stated, if you can't find drivers I have a Realtek driver package for 98 : XP which will probably work (even if you have a different chipset). See attached README file from the package. (You'll see the VIA chipset mentioned in the revision history in the text file.)

my comp had sound and without installing anything, there are no more sound coming out from my speaker, my speaker was fine and i tried testing it with another device but there are still no more sound.
i had uninstalled my sound driver and installed d wdm_A406 from realtek homepage but there'r still a yellow exclamation mark beside the device name under device manager, with the error code (10)
WMP cannot play the music file with error "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device."
