Question Modem & USB Problems - Drivers ???

    Hi Everyone,

I am in need of assistance please !

I have managed to get my PC to start XP Home after a particularly nasty crash. However, I now have a multitude of problems:

My machine has an Explorer MS-6511 mobo which appears to be specially made for Packard Bell as I cant find the board on the Micro star website.

The mobo hasn't detected the modem which is an Aztech CNR2800-W(c) SEC modem. Could it be a driver problem because the USB ports don't appear to be functioning either.

    Any suggestions please ???

    Explorer MS-6511

Packard Bell lists no drivers but the chipset is VIA

The 4 in 1 Drivers might help in general. You might also find more specific drivers in the arena.

    Thanks for the links jephree.

I have downloaded the Via 4 in 1 drivers but without any success.

I also downloaded the USB 1.1 drivers from Via but again they dont work when extracted. (I checked the bios – Amibios Setup Utility Version 2.01a just in case the USB ports were disabled, but they’re not, and in fact when I plug one of my memory sticks into the USB port the led’s inside actually light up so I know there’s power there). Any ideas ??

I could really do with getting this modem recognised by the system so that I could download files directly to the pc. At present I am using another computer at restricted times to download and then burning to cd to install on this machine later.

I have checked the Hardware tab and tried to get the system to look for any devices (as the modem doesn’t appear in the hardware profile at all) that are not installed. However, when I do this, the following message comes up on the screen:

Cannot Run Two Device Installations. You can only install one device at a time. Another device installation is underway, when it is finished you can try the wizard again.

The problem is I’m not installing anything !!!!! Any ideas or am I barking up the wrong tree??

When reviewing the device manager the yellow exclamation marks refer to the following. When I try to update the drivers from the hdd (as XP was pre-installed by Packard Bell I don’t have any XP discs):

Display Adapter – Video Controller (VGA Compatible) – S3 Graphics Inc ProSavage

    PCI Simple Communications Controller

Multimedia Audio Controller – Via AC’97 Audio Controller (WDM)

Universal Serial Bus – Via Rev 5.0 or later USB

Apologies for the lengthy post and if I appear to be rambling. Any ideas ?????

    Many thanks.

It's strange, from the MSI site you can't find the manual... but if you use google it find the manual just in the MSI site.... ???
However you may ask whatever you want about this motherboard cause i've just finished to repair a Packard Bell I MEDIA 5155. So if you go to the PB website you can find the bios and some driver (if you have the same pc)...

cause i haved to change the 6511,To change mobo i've to change all the usb cable (red, green, ecc) to use in another motherboard, modify the connector to use the floppy... and many other mods...

    So just ask...

Thanks norberto for your reply and also your offer of further help. I have now sorted the problem myself. A deletion of the USB drivers and then a re-install of some new drivers appears to have sorted the problem !
