i formatted my pc and sound doesnt work................ok i have an interal sound driver my pc is intel p4 with sound card chip 82801 db ac '97
but i also have another sound card that is an aureal vortex...i downloaded the soundcard driver for the aureal and everything but i still have no sound plus i dont see any volume or sound icons like i used to in the system tray where the time is.....wat do i do?>/??/

Would suggest reloading your chipset Intel drivers for the motherboard.

You can find them on-line if you do not have the board's CD.

ok i got the drivers and stuff for everything...my inbuilt sound card works...the intel one...i had the drivers but i dint kno i had to goto control panel, sound an dmultimedia and then select realtek audio from there.....but the sound quality sucks.....before i formatted my pc i used to use the aureal vortex...that sound rocked...i got the driver but its not there in the control panel, sounds and blah blah.......wat do i do?

What is your Operating System? XP?

You may need to disable your onboard either in the BIOS or the Device Manager or both.

Try the Device Manager first: Start/Run/ devmgmt.msc

If both devices are listed there disable the Intel/Realtek.

no dude...my operating system is windows ME.....tried installing windows xp on my bros pc....and dint kno i ahd to create partition so *boom*..screwed up his pc... ..... so dont wanna try on mine...lol....im happy with ME.....

and yea i tried typing devmgmt.msc in start/run...but tells me that cannot find...u have typed incorrectly...blah blah....

so i disabled sound from the place where wen u restart pc and u press F1 or F2..but still cannot find......

Double click on it. Do you see a Device Manager tab there.

i know where device manager is but the "sounds,games...." in the device manager shows only "realtek" and "wave device for voice modem".....doesnt show the aureal vortex one...

Are there any listings under Other Devices?

I suppose it does not show up under Start/Run/ dxdiag | Sound?

If not I would suggest removing the card and rebooting once without it. Then reinstall it.
