I formatted my disk and re-installed windows everything was fine until I tried to install sims2. I got a blue screen and when the computer rebooted the drivers for my dvd drivers and audio devices had disappeared. Can anyone help?

I would first off recommend taking all windows updates. This includes SP2 and about a dozen subsequent Critical Updates based on SP2. Go to start/ All Programs/ Windows Update

CD/DVD drivers should be found by XP. Try uninstalling the device then rebooting. This can be done via the Device Manager: Start/Run/ devmgmt.msc

You can also try the Device Manager to update your Sound Driver.
If not clearly listed under the Device Manager try: Start/Run/ dxdiag | Sound
What is the device listed? Unless you have added an Audio Card it should be 2Ch AC'97 codec

    THank you for your reply

Name: VIA AC'97 ENHANCED AUDIO WAVE
    Device ID: PCI\ VEN_1106DEV_3059SUBSYS_41611
    Manufacturer ID: 1
    Product ID: 100

I tried to install the audio drivers from the cd but windows kept saying that they had not been tested by them and that the drivers could cause problems. This is the first time I have had this warning and I have had my computer for over two years now. I have been having other problems such as the IRQL blue screen error could there be a connection?

I managed to get my dvd drives back in order but I am still concerned about the audio drivers.

    Thanks again for your advice.

    The basic driver is here:

    http://www.asrock.com/support/Download/dl_k7vt2.htm

This is probably the same as on the CD. The fact that an audio driver is not windows certified is most likely benign. Just ignore the warning and install.

If it relates to your blue screen we would need the details as requested in your other thread.

Again I recommend SP2 & all updates as Critical!
