    NVidia Graphics Driver Update

After recently updating the drivers from the nVidia site, I found that video playback, either in games or movie clips {all formats} was lacking in colour and appeared somewhat washed out. I am using the GeForce FX 5200 card and the drivers I used for the update were the appropriate ones according to the official nVidia Website. My computer is an AMD Athlon based unit. 3200 with 1 gig Memory, and running Windows XP. Since I have been unable to sort out the video playback with the new drivers, I have reverted back to the previous ones. Video playback is back to normal, but I have noticed that while playing some games, {not fast action games} there is significant loss of colour and detail in some scenes. There are even some graphics appearing on screen where they should not be.
I hope this all makes sense to someone, as I imagine updating drivers should be relatively straightforward

Did you get the driver here:

    http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp

Also: did you: uninstall the old\ reboot\ then install the new?

    Yes.to both
This is the NVidia Site where I downloaded the updated drivers from. And I also followed the procedure of uninstalling the old, before installing the new. Should have worked OK

In some cases I've seen the need to reinstall the motherboard chipset drivers.

Do you know the make & model of your board?

This scan will show it under Main Circuit Board

    http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

There should be drivers at the manufacturers' site.

okie dokie, I’m back quicker than expected....

This worked for me when I experienced the almost exact same problem last week after updating my drivers. I can’t guarantee this will work on your system as mines an sli system, so it may be it works for mine and not yours.
Either way ill try and help, and if this doesn’t fix your problem ill see what else I can find out that may help.

I’m not sure how well you know your way around a pc, so ill go into detail, just in case.

Firstly reinstall driver 77.72 from the NVIDIA site, making sure u uninstall your old driver first (as you did before) and do all the million restarts it makes you do.

Test a bit of random video playback, just to check the colours not right (personally I found it was very green, and looked almost like a negative or inverted or something, but apparently it varies)

Next on your taskbar you should have the little NVIDIA logo ( ill presume you do... if not tell me and ill change my instructions)

Click on the NVIDIA icon on the taskbar.
    Then select NVIDIA display
Next click on the name of your display
, (mine says "viewsonic vx912" for example)

This will bring up a sort of control panel for your graphics card

Click anywhere on it and you should get a list appear to the left, with different options.

    Click on “colour correction"
You should now have 2 drop down boxes on the upper left corner, above which says
    “Apply colour changes to”

In the top drop down box change the selection from either desktop or overlay to and select "all"

    Click apply then ok,

Re-open the video file and play it, the colours should now be fixed.

This isn’t a permanent fix, and there should be an update from NVIDIA eventually, but in the mean time I hope this works for you... if it doesn’t ill try and find another fix for you.
