I reinstalled windows 98se on a Compaq Presario 5020. I get an error on the PCI serial controller under device manager. It shows up under "other devices". When I try to install the drivers it give the message : "windows was unable to locate the drivers for this device". I ran an unknown devices program I got on this site. It states that the PCI serial controller "is an unknown device from compaq computer corp. (Now own by HP)". I went to the compaq site and cant find these drivers. Any help?
PS: without this program I can not get on the internet. I am using a Lnksys etherfast 10/100 lan card. I have installed the drivers for this device.

From this thread:I just went thru this with a Presario 5222 after using the restore cd.
When Win98 comes up with found new hardware and calls it a 'PCI Serial Controller' choose 'select hardware from a list'. Choose 'HCFMODEM'. Ignore warnings about a driver mismatch.... it's the right one. Let it install the driver anyway.
Windows will now see the modem itself and will install drivers for it. [This one was a Conexant].
Modem working now and no more yellow exclamation marks in device manager or references to any 'PCI Serial Controller'.![]()
PCI Serial Controller Card
I decided to take out the modem because it will not be used. But thanks anyway. I downloaded the drivers and saved to cd. That way I can reinstall later if I decide to put the modem back in. Thank you sooooo much. It was a great help.
