i just reinstalled xp with sp2 and all available updates, as well as updated drivers for my BIOS, sound and graphics.

problem is that when i installed the new drivers for my graphics card, i can't get past the windows loading screen. the monitor just blacks out and goes into standby. all i do is end pressing the reset button. i can access safe mode as well as vga mode no probs, but can't adjust the resolution above default-screen goes black with a cursor flashing in the top left corner. i hav tried at least three times to uninstall then reinstall this driver and also tried an older version too but i still get the same problem.

works fine wen i uninstall these drivers and run stardard vga drivers tho.

Have you tried running Windows Update to see if there's any new drivers certified for use with Windows XP SP2?

i did try to do that, but nothing changed, so i just reinstalled xp from scatch again.
i've managed to update all other drivers to the latest available, and this time the graphics seem to be fine.

problem is that now can't seem to install sp2. i downloaded it from windows update and it starts up ok, gets about half way thru and stops. it can't find the ole32.dll file??
so it just rolls back to sp1. wot can i do abt dis problem?

Could I suggest that you close this thread (click the Thread Tools link towards the top of the page) as your original driver-related issue is resolved. Then, post a new question about your OLE32.DLL problem in the Windows XP section of the forum. Not many people check out the Driver section but we've got lots of guys that are good with Windows XP here so you'll get help quicker if you try the Windows XP board

I ran into the same exact problem on a 3rd system I am setting up.
AMD Athlon 950 with a 400w power supply w/ a 15gig Q-Fireball hardisk & 256mb. I installed XP and started downloading updates first.(using generic video drivers) Then when i downloaded SP2, BAM!... same as DRN, the power light would stay on but the monitor would shut off. I downloaded the most recent Catlyst driver update but it still does the same. In safemode, it does show the drivers in the Device Manager. I am still stuck. HELP!!

i might have a way round this problem. after much messin around wit installin and reinstallin xp , i found dat if u don't install SP2, the graphics may work.

if all else fails try to reinstall xp then try to install the graphics drivers before anything else if u can. den run windows update and install all critical updates but not SP2(use custom install). it worked 4 me!
